This convention is the largest of the year for MPA, drawing newspaper publishers, editors, advertising managers and other staff members from around the state.
A highlight of the 2015 convention was when Morley Piper spoke about his D-Day experience 71 years ago. Morely is the secretary for the National Newspaper Executive Directors. He, along with 10 other World War II veterans, were honored guests.
Brett Adkinson, Clinton Coutny Leader & Nicole Cooke, Sedalia Democrat were also honored during the convention with the 2015 William E. James Outstanding Young Journalists award.
Thursday evening was a special outing to Arrow Rock, MO, a historic town that has been preserved including the Print Shop museum. This is where Missouri Press buried a time capsule in 1991.
On Saturday, Sept. 12, winners of the Missouri Press Association Better Newspaper Contest were honored. Congratulations to the Gold Cup Winners for Weeklies: Cassville Democrat; Christian County Headliner-News; and St. Loius Business Journal. For the Dailies, congratulations to these Gold Cup Winners: Daily Star-Journal, Warrensburg; Columbia Missourian; and The Kansas City Star.
Best wishes to Doug Crews, Executive Director who will retire in Feb. 2016, and will continue through May in Jefferson City working for the betterment of Newspapers.
